networking!
The 2010 Environmental Evaluators Networking Forum took place on June
7 and 8, 2010 in Washington, D.C. Presentations and notes are available
here.
About the Network
Individuals in the fields of natural resource conservation and
environmental management increasingly need to demonstrate the
effectiveness and efficiency of projects and programs, particularly in
terms of environmental outcomes. The purpose of the Environmental
Evaluators Network is to:
- foster connections among evaluators and evaluation consumers.
- grow the body of knowledge of environmental program and policy
evaluation.
- foster the collaborative development of products for advancing the
field.
The Network is comprised of environmental, conservation, and natural
resource evaluators and evaluation consumers. Individuals from academia,
consulting organizations, foundations, government agencies, and
non-profit organizations are all welcome to participate. The membership
is international.
Environmental Evaluators Network Forum
Since 2006, NFWF and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency have
co-hosted an annual two-day forum in Washington, D.C. in June.
Each year, over 100 environmental evaluators and practitioners from the
U.S. and abroad attend the event to network and share innovative
evaluation approaches.
Featured 2010 EEN Annual Forum Presentation
Through the five years that the Environmental Evaluators Network has
been in existence, many fantastic minds have converged and helped
further the capacity of doing evaluations in the environmental arena. We
were particularly fortunate at the 2010 Forum on June 7-8 to have
Eleanor Chelimsky as a participant. As many of you know, Eleanor has a
long, distinguished career in the evaluation profession, including work
at GAO where she ran an evaluation unit of about 100 social scientists
(the Program Evaluation and Methodology Division) doing evaluations for
the Congress. Under her leadership, PEMD pioneered the use of new
methodologies and performed evaluations in almost every subject area.
She was President of the Evaluation Research Society and of the American
Evaluation Association and received GAO's top honor, the Comptroller
General's Award. She is currently a member of AEA's Evaluation Policy
Task Force, working on ways to improve both the understanding and
performance of evaluation in the Federal Government. We are fortunate to
have a copy of the speech that she presented at the EEN Forum. We hope
you take the time to read it and absorb its lessons. It's a must read
for any evaluator.

Evaluative Complexity in the Age of Obama
Shelley Robertson from Robertson Consulting was gracious enough to
review the speech by Eleanor Chelimsky. She developed a slick checklist
of all of the various items that savvy evaluators ought to consider in
planning an evaluation.
