​Assistant Director, Central Partnership Office

SUMMARY

The Assistant Director-Central Partnership Office will advance innovative and effective conservation in the Central region as well as assist in identifying barriers to effective conservation and help create programs to overcome such barriers.  The Assistant Director will participate in raising conservation funds and management of the donor partnerships in the region. The Assistant Director will also assist in soliciting, reviewing and administering conservation grants. The Central Partnership Office is comprised of the states of Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with Foundation staff and key leaders in conservation, including federal agency partners, to gain credibility and keep abreast of developments in the conservation arena.
  • Assist Partnership Office Director in identifying conservation goals, emerging issues and barriers to effective conservation and help identify creative solutions to overcome such barriers.
  • Under the direction of the Partnership Office Director, manage national programs associated with the partnership office strategy.
  • Manage Conservation Partners Program and other agricultural programs.
  • Manage applicable funding sources, including the preparation of grant applications and amendments, preparation and submission of financial and programmatic reports and coordination with project officers to ensure compliance with all funding source requirements.
  • Develop persuasive strategies and communications including grant applications and power point presentations.
  • Implement outcomes-based solutions including establishing and managing community based partnerships, convening review committees, and work with possible grant applicants to develop outcomes based proposals.
  • In coordination and consultation with the Foundation’s Development and Marketing and Government Relations teams, assist in the achievement of Partnership Office fundraising goals through identification and solicitation of funds from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other potential donors.  Assist the Development and Marketing team to identify potential donors for fundraising partnerships.
  • Lead and manage activities toward a specific conservation outcome.
  • Prepare reports on progress of activities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel on short notice.

SECONDARY DUITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist as needed in preparation of grants for review by staff or the Board of Directors.
  • Recommend new processes and procedures as needed to improve existing processes.
  • Support the Central Partnership Office Director in the daily operation and management of the Central Partnership Office in Bloomington, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Partnership Office Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS)

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in conservation, agriculture or other relevant field, advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum five years work experience in an office setting.
  • Experience and interest in agriculture related conservation.
  • Strong background in conservation, particularly agriculture or private lands.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and manage projects.
  • Superior written and oral communication, networking ability and persuasion skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and develop innovative ideas.
  • Strong commitment to task, organizational, attention to detail and follow-through skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to work with multiple priorities in ambiguous situations.
  • Computer proficiency with databases, spreadsheets, word processing, graphics and HTML.
  • Passion and drive to utilize the above skills and abilities to advance new conservation techniques.

Compensation

Commensurate with experience.
