Summary
The Senior Accountant is primarily responsible for the management of the Accounts Payable function; the accuracy of information posted in the Deltek-Costpoint Accounting System, and will support the Assistant Controller with the accounting, bookkeeping, month-end close and handling of day-to-day operations of the accounting department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Post subsidiary and general ledger transactions (i.e. cash receipts, accounts payable and cash disbursements) in Deltek-Costpoint accounting system. Review the adequacy and accuracy of supporting documentation and ensure proper accounting treatment is applied.
Prepare detailed financial and funding source reports, reconciliations and analyses.
Manage the Accounts Payable function, supervising AP staff and tasks such as vendor set-up, voucher preparation, payment selection, preparation of checks, and wire transfers.
Communicate and liaise with Foundation's bank representatives to troubleshoot returned wires, void checks and stop payment orders.
Prepare the quarterly analysis and reconciliation of investment accounts to fund account balances. Prepare summary reports and ensure necessary corrective actions are taken in a timely manner.
Maintain the fixed asset register and prepare monthly depreciation schedules.
Assist in the execution of fiscal year-end closing tasks, preparation of audit work papers/schedules and liaison with external audit team.
Prepare quarterly (interim) federal financial reports (SF-425).
Assist in the annual Form 990 preparation and filing.
Manage the annual 1099 review, preparation and filing process with regulatory authorities.
Recommend best practice processes and controls and support implementation efforts.
Perform other special projects and duties as directed and assigned.
Month-end Responsibilities
Perform month-end closing tasks (e.g. journal entries, monthly activity reports, etc.) to ensure timely preparation of Senior Management and Board of Directors reports.
Prepare/supervise monthly bank and investment account recordings and reconciliations
Perform month-end reviews and verifications to assure general ledger and supporting journals are in agreement.
Investigate and prepare variance analysis reports and supports as required.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS)
Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline required.
At least five years relevant accounting experience.
CPA/CPA candidate strongly preferred.
Experience with Deltek-Costpoint strongly preferred.
Proficiency in Excel and Word are required.
Non-profit and/or A-133 experience preferred.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
