The Department of Defense (DOD) is a key partner in NFWF’s Longleaf Stewardship Fund, a landmark public–private effort to advance longleaf pine restoration in the southeastern United States. Since 2012, DOD has contributed over $1.35 million towards restoring or improving more than 240,000 acres of longleaf pine forests, supporting wildlife species recovery and increasing private landowner participation. In addition to advancing longleaf restoration goals, the partnership helps DOD maintain important buffers around military bases, enhancing military readiness.
