Description: Recruit, hire, and provide education and training in forestry, ecology, and natural resource management for a six member youth crew to work with the Cuba and Jemez Ranger Districts in the Santa Fe National Forest for nine weeks during the summer. Project will include closing user-created routes in the forest, repair and construction of fencing to protect riparian habitat, assessing and mitigating headcuts and gullies in streams, and improvement of ten miles of degraded trails where they intersect with important springs.
Award Amount: $38,735.31
Matching Contribution: $80,000.00
Location: The project is on the Cuba and Jemez Ranger Districts of the Santa Fe National Forest in Sandoval County. US Census data indicate Cuba is 25% Native American, 45% Hispanic, and has a 45% poverty rate.
