Remove the Lower Eklutna River dam located 25 miles northeast of Anchorage, Alaska -- as repeated studies over several decades have recommended – as the essential first step in a multi-pronged approach to restoring the Eklutna River. The Lower Eklutna River Dam Removal Project, a model for other dam removal efforts across the country, is the most ambitious habitat restoration project ever attempted in Alaska and will benefit five species of Pacific salmon (king, sockeye, silver, pink and chum), whose numbers are currently greatly reduced, and the Eklutna Dena'ina people, for whom the river is important culturally.
