Description:

We will Map Horseshoe crab spawning areas in Georgia, confirm through fecal analysis Red Knot consumption of their eggs, and use this information to highlight key areas where human disturbance threatens spring staging sites for Knots. We will continue two NFWF funded projects including a state-wide band resight survey for American Oystercatcher which will produce a robust estimate of several demographic parameters (population size, immigration and emigration, stop-over duration) and complete a Wilson's Plover predator exclosure project. We will fund two island shorebird technicians (on St Catherines and Cumberland Islands) to monitor nests, trap predators, and advocate for nesting American Oystercatcher and Wilson's Plover.

Location:
The HS Crab/Red Knot and Oystercatcher survey projects will cover many areas on the Georgia coastal beaches and marsh islands. The Wilson's Plover project will be on Little St Simons Island, and shorebird technicians will work on St Catherines and Cumberland Islands.
