Description:

Restore oyster habitat in the Elizabeth River, a tributary of the Elizabeth River, reducing nitrogen concentrations by oysters filtering algae.

Project will construct 2.25 acres of oyster reef, not only providing habitat for oysters, but also for fin fish, crabs, mussels, and feed grounds for birds.

Location:
The oyster reef will be located in the City of Norfolk in southeast Virginia at the mouth of the Lafayette River. The reef will be located near the mouth of the river in water that is approximately 3 to 6 feet deep. This area has shown high rates of spat set and is located near three other reefs.
