Bats for the Future Fund
Project Title: Developing a Probiotic Approach to Reduce Severity of White-Nose Syndrome in Bats (Canada)
Organization:
Thompson Rivers University
Project ID:
0406.17.057614
Description:

Thompson Rivers University will develop a probiotic cocktail from bacteria and fungi naturally found on healthy bat wings; and apply it to bat roosts to prevent White-Nose Syndrome (WNS) in Canada. The project will alter wing flora so there is more representation of microbes to delay or prevent the growth of the fungal pathogen Pseudogymnoascus destructans causing WNS; and with this boost help bats survive hibernation, and establish a new method to reduce WNS mortality in North America.
