The Nature Conservancy will hire, equip, and support a burn crew to assist the Onslow Bight Conservation Forum (TNC, NC Wildlife Resources Commission, NC State Parks, and US Croatan National Forest) in the Forum’s work to restore and enhance through prescribed fire at least 28,773 acres of longleaf pine habitat on priority conservation lands within the Onslow Bight landscape in eastern North Carolina. The project will establish 249 acres of longleaf pine and help the Forum in implementing prescribed fire on at least 28,773acres of existing longleaf around Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and other public and private lands, improving habitat for Bachman's sparrow, red-cockaded woodpecker and the Carolina gopher frog.
