Project Title: Restoration and Resilience of Endemic Bigcone Douglas-fir after the 2007 Zaca Fire: Phase 2
Organization:
University of California - Santa Barbara
Project ID:
0806.18.059850
Description:

We will build on success of Phase 1, in which we successfully mapped the distribution of bigcone Douglas-fir (BCDF) in the Zaca Fire footprint, quantified stand mortality, and collected seed from representative locations. Our proposed Phase 2 includes a landscape-scale assessment of restoration viability, combined with an assessment of local-scale environmental conditions associated with regeneration, to maximize seedling survival in outplanting trials. Findings will support an adaptive management plan for long-term persistence of this important endemic species.

Award Amount:
$132739.10
Location:
Project location area includes the region burned in the Zaca Fire and the landscape surrounding the fire perimeter (occurred in 2007, largely in Santa Barbara County, California).
