Description:

Develop a regional strategy and supporting plans to increase organizational capacity and coordination among monarch butterfly conservation partners west of the Rocky Mountains. Project will develop and track implementation efforts identified in the Western Monarch Population Conservation Strategy, establish the Western Monarch and Pollinator Initiative Council, and transition milkweed data into the Crucial Habitat Assessment Tool (CHAT).The western monarch effort will utilize the CHAT one square mile hexagon framework as a way to summarize the different layers of monarch habitat data. Once referenced to the hexagons, state workgroup members will have access to a comprehensive account of the data available to create ranking of how important each hexagon is to the monarch butterflies. Stakeholder outreach and support for the effort will be accomplished by continuing engaging stakeholders already identified by participating WAFWA member states.
