The Northern Great Plains Joint Venture proposes to use leverage $75,000 in SPIRIT Grant funds to implement a minimum of 7,500 ac of habitat conservation (restoration, enhancement, and/or protection of priority grassland areas in the core of grassland bird diversity on the Northern Great Plains. We will do this In those counties identified through our "Conservation Guidance Directory', which establishes appropriate sideboards for conservation delivery on a county-by-county basis for the 68 counties in the NGPJV. This tool combines the "plowprint" analysis of net landscape change, and conversion threats based on soil types, with species distribution models/objectives to identify both opportunity and potential benefits of habitat conservation projects. We propose to implement actions in support of a new Northern Plains Grassland (Working Lands for Wildlife) effort in the western Dakotas, through our Conservation Delivery Network of partner and agency biologists working on private lands.
