Engage family forest owners in south Alabama to restore and enhance longleaf pine forests to improve habitat for at-risk species, such as gopher tortoise, eastern indigo snake and eastern hognose snake. Project will reach and educate landowners through direct mail and social media marketing, workshops and field days, resulting in 2,600 acres of longleaf planting, prescribed burning, and invasive species control. The grantee will work with the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to collect gopher tortoise population data by facilitating and conducting surveys on willing private landowners engaged through this project.
