Measure and model fine sediment production from hillslopes in North Kihei’s lower and middle watershed areas impacting priority coral reefs. Project will collect and analyze the amount of sediment observed in stormwater discharges, and the amount of sediment in nearshore waters to synthesize data on water quality and coral reef health. A local partner monitoring effort will include a program to collect and analyze information on the amount of sediment observed in stormwater discharges, and the amount of sediment in nearshore waters. Local partners will also review the role of flood control measures on flow of sediment to Kihei's nearshore, and synthesize data on water quality and coral reef health.
