The Hunter Family Foundation and NFWF began working together to improve the health of the Chicago and Calumet Rivers through the Chi-Cal Rivers Fund. The Fund achieves its impact by supporting projects that enhance fish and wildlife habitat, reduce stormwater runoff with green infrastructure and improve public-use opportunities and access to natural areas. To date, the program has added more than 8.6 million gallons of stormwater storage capacity; enhanced 2,970 acres of riparian, wetland and upland habitat; and added or improved 95 acres of public green space. This conservation partnership supports NFWF’s efforts to sustain, restore and enhance wildlife habitat and protect vital public lands.
